The PRODUTECH R3 Innovation Pact is a strategic and integrated initiative made up of a series of programs aimed at:

• Transforming Industry, developing and transferring R&D and transforming it into new products and services (namely production technologies), enabling and supporting companies in this sector in the associated innovation processes, but also supporting companies in user sectors to adopt and endogenize these new technologies in their production systems, contributing to competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience;
• Qualifying Industry for Resilience, Growth and Innovation;
• Training and Professional Education in Innovative Production Technologies, thus supporting the desired transformation;
• Internationalization of companies;
• Broad promotion and dissemination of the Pact and its results.

The PRODUTECH R3 project aims to bring a structural change in the Production Technologies Sector (PTS), enabling it to exploit the significant investments that the industry will make in the green and digital transition, reducing external technological dependence, increasing the added value generated in the country and contributing to a change in the specialization of the Portuguese economy.
It is based on a partnership that brings together 108 companies and other entities from the PTS, the main sectors of industry, and the scientific and technological system. The project envisages the collaborative development of 85 new innovative products and services and their demonstration in more than 52 pilots in companies in the user sectors and the development of complementary actions in the areas of education and training, internationalization, dissemination, and the PTS’s capacity building, inducing a structural change and the creation of a truly dynamic and sustainable innovation ecosystem in the area of production technologies.

KITT4SME (platform-enabled KITs of arTificial intelligence FOR an easy uptake by SMEs) specifically targets European SMEs and mid-caps to provide them with scope-tailored and industry-ready hardware, software, and organizational kits, delivered as a modularly customizable digital platform, that seamlessly introduces artificial intelligence in their production systems. KITT4SME is a Horizon 2020 project (952119) supported by the European Union.

Artificial Intelligence-based Multi-Objective Scheduling Optimization for Sustainable Manufacturing (AI4MOS) aims to explore the integration of existing injection molding machines and RAILES (Manufacturing Execution  System) to extract data during the process.  This data will then be used to create Artificial Intelligence models capable of optimizing the production schedule

ZDMP aims at providing an extendable platform for supporting factories with a high interoperability level to cope with the concept of connected factories to reach the zero defects goal. In this context, ZDMP will allow end-users to connect their systems to benefit from the features of the platform. ZDMP has received funding from the European Union’s Horizont 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement Nº 825631.

Quality control is essential for a manufacturing company to develop a sustainable business, not only from an environmental point of view but also socially and economically. Thus, it is essential to facilitate integrating a platform such as ZDMP in industrial facilities where existing software can do that. This project aims to integrate RAILES platform responsible for making some functionalities on the shop floor with ZDMP. RAILES can be used to extract data and send it to ZDMP.

With Raized, some injection machines from the facilities of a company specializing in the manufacture of plastic parts were used to integrate RAILES and ZDMP, to develop machine learning models capable of making predictions related to the execution of the system and, more specifically, related to predictive quality issues.

Qu4lity is the biggest European project dedicated to Autonomous Qu4lity (AQ) and Zero-Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) in the scope of Industry 4.0. Qu4lity aims, in the most realistic, measurable, and replicable way, to demonstrate a transformative and SME-friendly data-driven ZDM product and service model for Factories 4.0. Qu4lity has 14 pilot lines and with those, it will demonstrate how European Industry can build unique and very tailored ZDM strategies to help companies to achieve greater success with a quality model that will meet Industry 4.0 ZDM Qu4lity is a European project co-funded by Horizon 2020 under the Framework Programme of the European Union.

Demand for higher quality products, both from an environmental and socio-economical point of view, demands from companies a system that ensures that their products are delivered to their client and will meet their higher expectations. So, with the advancement of Big Data processing tools or even Artificial Intelligence coming towards what factories require, there is more space to create real solutions to real problems.

It is possible at this point to create intelligent solutions that are for example capable of predicting the different consumptions according to the different stages of the production environment. This is the area the IM4I is focusing its development. The project aims to develop a solution that will integrate the platform RAILES which offers the capacity to collect data from the shop floor, analyze the data through the tools provided by the integration of RAILES and the QU4LITY platform, to give to the operator that interacts with the machines the most information about what happening and eventually what will happen with future products.

Industries will become fully digital in the next decades. The progress in data-acquisition systems, processing speed, and network infrastructure created the conditions for this transformation. The market competition created the need for a more efficient manufacturing process only possible through digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Cyber-physical embedded systems (CPES) play a predominant role in the control and operation of a factory during the pandemic. It provides feedback on the physical environment and production performance. For example, the RAILES software developed by MUVU monitors and manages all the processes on the shop floor through a web platform that provides data in real-time collected by an IoT system or by the operator.

This project aims to validate the integration of smart devices (cameras and watches), advanced data processing algorithms, and intuitive dashboards (actuated locally and remotely), i.e. a Cyber-Physical and Embedded System (CPES) to monitor, feedback, and improve two conflicting needs in manufacturing SMEs:

• The full respect of health and safety rules strengthened by COVID (personnel equipment use, safe distance, hygienic routines, etc.);
• The respect of optimized operators and materials movements, and operational and quality procedures.
